about

Recorded: Green Door Studios, Glasgow

Planet Ur-Th seals the second phase of The Sundancer. The songs were taken as an example of a live set for The Sundancer as an acoustic duo or trio. Mads Mitchell and I played many gigs in this format with Paul Wood dropping in to add some violin. The songs are a mixture of new and old recorded in the studio where we recorded 5 Miles To Sunrise.

Unlike previous albums, these songs were road tested live many times over. Mads and I fell into a groove and just played. Planet Ur-Th is one of my best songs and the rest of the album seems to sum things up. Surrender and Get Over are two early songs from the Come With Me E.P. 2002 and Out Of The Woods 2005, New Sensation was mostly improvised, Planet Ur-Th, Wanted Woman were new additions post 5 Miles To Sunrise, The Alarm Clock Song was taken from 5 Miles To Sunrise, Omega State Blues and Stone Age Man were from 21st Century Prophet$ and Start Again is from Shaved Eye 2007.

This was the way that The Sundancer gigs tended to go as a duo, we could take songs from any time and put an acoustic spin on them. If you take the first song from Millennium Messiah and the last song from Planet Ur-Th you can hear a connection. The funny thing is that these songs have provided the pathway for my life, or at least the soundtrack of the pathway of my life. There are very few people who can say that.

All of this takes us to the starting point.
